Debbie
Daly is the owner and founder of Tucson Yoga, and a teacher of yoga and meditation. She opened the studio
in 2003
out of her vision to provide a low-cost, community-oriented yoga center
that offers Tucsonans access to improved health and well-being.
Debbie
has studied yoga and meditation in several different traditions since 1995, and
began teaching in 2000. Her training results from a broad exploration
of the differing yoga and meditation disciplines through many wonderful teachers and
extensive self-study.
Debbie's early yoga studies included Bikram, Anusara, Viniyoga and Iyengar Yoga. In more recent years her teaching is inspired by the asana and philosophy teachings of Natasha Korshak and Rama Vernon, the Taoist Yoga teachings Paul Grilley, and the Vipassana and Mindfulness teachings of Jack Kornfield and of Jon Kabat-Zinn.
Having used yoga to manage her own back problems and carpal tunnel syndrome, Debbie is attuned to the needs of students with limitations and/or injuries, and she offers modifications so that her classes are appropriate for a variety of body types. She treats students to a long, guided deep relaxation at the end of each class, often with progressive body relaxation, visualization, and chanting.
Debbie is an active advocate for simple, sustainable living. She feels that cruelty-free, vegan eating, in the context of today's animal farming practices, is essential to yoga practice. She believes that a regular yoga, meditation, or spiritual practice will keep people feeling whole within themselves, and will inspire lifestyle choices that are increasingly kind to others, to themselves, and to the earth and its sentient beings.
Debbie is also a musician and a vegan restaurant reviewer. You can view her music website at www.debbiedaly.com and her restaurant reviews at vegantucson.yelp.com.
